Inverted Nipples
Inverted nipples are usually the result of fibrosis and scar formation in the milk tubes, that causes the nipple to be pulled inwards. Repair is aimed at cutting through the fibrotic bands and everting the nipple with sutures.
Although patients with this condition will usually be unable to breast feed, they will definitely lose the ability to breast feed after this procedure.
What To Expect
The procedure can usually be performed in an outpatient setting, under local anesthetic with a bit of sedation. The nipples will be covered with a dressing, and it will be removed after 5-7 days.
It is usually not a painful procedure and satisfying results can be obtained. There is a possibility of recurrence of the inversion, which will need further surgery.
